For the Inherently Curious: Deepen Your Pilates Knowledge Through Niche Instructor Training
We are confident in saying that if you do Pilates, then you are an inherently curious person.
You don’t come to your Pilates session with an intense, nearly overnight body transformation in mind, or to get yourself ready for a triathlon (although, we would recommend that you sprinkle in some cross training). You are there because you want to learn more about your body and find a movement practice that works for you. While single-side work doesn’t always feel like a mental breakthrough in the moment,it is eye-opening to notice just how much stronger one side of your body is. And dare we say… it's even fun? You're suddenly looking forward to your next class, eager to balance things out, and to build on what you’ve discovered. Many people find their way to Pilates after an injury, giving birth, or as they move through the natural process of aging. In all these cases, there’s a realization: you have to re-learn what your body is capable of—and Pilates gives you the space to do just that.
Sure, you come to a group workout class so that you can relieve the mental load of deciding how to work out, but there is no way that you can get through a whole class without noticing the way that you are moving. In fact, it’s the instructor’s job to make sure that you notice these things.
If You Geek Out Over This Stuff, Niche Instructor Training Might Be For You
Whether or not you plan to teach full-time, our Niche Instructor Training (NIT) offers a deep dive into Pilates—one that expands your understanding of your own body and how to support others.
Learn More About Your Own Movement
You are your own best subject! In training, you’ll practice the movements yourself and refine your technique in real time. You’ll learn cues that speak to you, and hopefully, will resonate with clients in the future. You’ll dive deep into the muscle groups responsible for each Pilates exercise and gain insight into how incorrect form shifts where you feel the movement in your body—and how proper alignment brings it back. The more that you recognize these shifts in your own body, the more you will be able to help clients recognize it as well.
Deepen Your Knowledge for All Types of Movement
Your training begins with “the Foundations of Anatomy” because that truly is the foundation of Pilates and we are dedicated to ensuring that every student feels rooted and confident in this knowledge. Most Pilates instructors spend a significant amount of time enjoying other forms of movement as well, and nearly all will tell you that their Pilates practice has enhanced their performance in everything from dance and yoga to running and weightlifting. We hear this from clients, too! This is beneficial for you as a mover but could also be an excellent way to enhance your knowledge of other movement types. If you have experience teaching fitness in any capacity, and still want to pursue that career path, we can’t recommend Pilates training enough. With a deep understanding of Pilates and functional movement, you’ll be better able to serve your clients - particularly as they experience inevitable life changes.
Open the Door to a New Career
And yes—if you’ve ever imagined becoming a Pilates instructor, this could be your next step. That doesn’t mean you have to jump into a full-time career. There are so many ways to teach Pilates, from part-time studio work to private sessions. Check out our blog post that goes into detail about the different career paths for Pilates instructors.
The curiosity that we mentioned earlier—that is your greatest asset. Whether you’re doing Pilates for your own personal growth or you’re ready to take it further, Niche Instructor Training is designed to support, challenge, and inspire you every step of the way.
